I am a nationally certified and NYS licensed mental health counselor offering counseling /psychotherapy to individuals and couples to help clarify and resolve issues related to depression, family conflict, stress, children of dysfunctional or abusive families (childhood trauma), assertiveness/communication skills, grief, women’s/men's issues, and food/body image.
Common couples issues include unskilled communication leading to disconnection and conflict, blaming 'the other' for relationship problems, dealing with broken trust due to infidelity, failure to thrive through lack of emotional/sexual intimacy and shared experiences, difficulty translating a partner's 'language', differences in style that create tension and misunderstanding, tit-for-tat attempts, or simply drifting apart.
My approach is integrative; I use a number of modalities when working with you depending on the issues you bring and the style you prefer. I recognize the importance of holding an awareness of and capitalizing on your strengths and capabilities, not just focusing on your problems and less skillful behaviors. I strive to offer excellent service regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, age, religious beliefs, disability, and ethnicity. I have been in private practice since 1993.
Counseling can be a rich, energizing, challenging, and sometimes difficult experience. Essential to its success are the match between you and me, your level of motivation, and your willingness to practice new ways of thinking and behaving outside of our sessions. It is normal to feel resistant to change and to feel some fear. Sometimes things feel worse before they feel better. Any concerns or questions you have are invited for discussion.
Sessions are one hour; payment is accepted in cash or check at the time of session. Twenty-four hours notice is required for cancellation for N/C. You are responsible for payment in full for sessions cancelled within less than 24 hours.
Depending on what you're comfortable with we can use talk, guided imagery, mindfulness practice, stress reduction techniques, creative arts, or energy therapy methods like Thought Field Therapy (a technique involving tapping on acupressure points) to help you sort thoughts and feelings, clarify concerns, discover insights, make new choices, and practice new behaviors. I will always honor your thoughts and feelings about how we can best work together.
When you feel ready to end counseling, while I will share my professional opinion on your leave-taking, ultimately it’s your right to decide and I will respect it as your right for self determination. If you need a therapist with a different style, I will attempt to make a referral to someone who is a better fit.
To contact me, I invite you to call (518) 456-7030 or email me at [email protected]
